The safety of your child is your highest priority. It’s no different at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Through careful screening, parents/guardians can be confident their child is in a safe environment with their mentor.

Mentor Applications & Screening

All potential mentor applications go through careful screening process that includes:

  • Phone screening
  • In-person interview
  • Calgary Police Information Check
  • Child Welfare Check
  • In-person and online training

Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters staff are highly trained individuals, often from a social work background, who are skilled in selecting appropriate volunteers for our programs.

Child and Youth Training

Children and youth entering our programs participate in safety training with a staff member at our office. Mentees learn about self-esteem, identifying feelings and boundaries.
