Be the key they need to thrive
Doors aren’t designed to stay closed.
As soon as they’re opened, they’re no longer a barrier.
They become the pathway to move forward and get where you want to go.
This past year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area (BBBS Calgary) supported 1,571 children and youth through mentorship, and that’s worth celebrating.
But we still have 180 young people waiting to be matched with a mentor.
We all know mentorship works. It builds confidence, belonging, and resilience. But to keep pace with the demand, we need to bridge the funding and volunteer gap that’s limiting our ability to source, match, and sustain new mentoring relationships.
This campaign invites 94 donors to open one door through a $5,000 investment. The number 94 reflects the year BBBS Calgary was founded, 1994, grounding the campaign in our history of opening doors to the future.
Each door represents a barrier and a pathway to unlock potential. Our goal is to open 94 pathway supports, and this campaign gives us a clear, tangible way to invite our community to step up and make that happen.
You don’t need to be a big company to be a Big Business. We’re calling on organizations of all sizes, and individuals too, who are ready to invest in local youth and help open doors of opportunity.
One door is a $5,000 investment that covers the real cost of making and sustaining a mentoring relationship, from screening to matching to ongoing support. And bigger contributions can change the long-term health of the entire community.
Partner with BBBS Calgary to support the next generation. Your involvement helps us scale our impact, reduce our waitlist, and connect more children and youth with life-changing mentors.
For you as a donor, you can point to a concrete investment of $5,000 and know that your funds are going into a model backed by research, not just good intentions.
For the young person, the door you open could mean finishing high school, engaging in new learning or employment, building confidence, and avoiding high-cost outcomes like dropping out, delinquency, or long-term isolation.
For Calgary, the ripple effect is substantial — increased civic participation, stronger workplace readiness, fewer costs borne by social services, and greater community cohesion.

Why this investment matters:
- Research shows that mentoring relationships are a proven, cost-effective strategy in addressing multiple risk factors at once, from school disengagement and social isolation to risky behaviour and disconnection.(mentoring.org)
- For young people in need of an additional supportive relationship, the impact is deep: mentored youth are more likely to feel belonging, to persist in school, and to access new pathways instead of being held back by barriers. (The Annie E. Casey Foundation)
- Mentoring is not a narrow fix; it works broadly. Mentoring is proven to positively impact academic engagement, social-emotional development, identity formation, and community connection. (mentoring.org)
- Every $1 invested in Big Brothers Big Sisters generates $23 in social return on investment. (bbbsc.ca)

Behind EACH Door is a Brighter Future
When one door opens, it opens for all of us.
The 94 Doors Campaign is more than fundraising. It’s a movement of Calgarians standing together to ensure every young person has the chance to walk through a door of opportunity. When neighbours, businesses, and families unite around mentorship, we build a city where every child feels seen, supported, and ready to thrive.
Together, we’re not just opening doors, we’re opening futures.
